Inspired by the medieval architecture studied as part of my History of Art degree at Manchester University, I considered it a natural progression to do a City and Guilds course in the practical skills of Architectural Masonry, Carving and Lettercutting.
Subsequently I joined the team that repaired the spire of Salisbury Cathedral and while there I was made a William Morris Craft Fellow by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
In 1991 I moved to the Welsh Borders where influences as diverse as the Hereford School of Romanesque Carving and Eric Gill's workshop at Capel y Ffin have continued to inform my work.
I now work on a freelance basis. I occasionally get involved in major restoration projects; but primarily I make individually designed pieces from indigenous stone. Current work includes sundials, birdbaths, nameplates, small stone sculptures, slate alphabets and paperweights.
